World's Record Non-Stop Flights by Airplane
"An efficient airways system will, in time of an emergency, permit the quick transfer of tactical units from various parts of the United States to air defense frontier strategical points, thus greatly increasing the potential strength of these units.
"Young as it is, air transport, better than all the surface facilities, could meet the two main requirements for war-time transportation -- speed and mobility."
Dec. 11, 1933
MAJOR GENERAL B.D. FOULOIS,
Chief of the Air Corps, U.S. Army
The record flight of today is a commonplace tomorrow.
The amazing progress in fast, reliable, transport planes and auxiliary equipment must be credited to the grueling work demanded in regularly scheduled air line operations. Flying millions of miles, nearly half the time at night, in all kinds of weather, over every conceivable kind of country, month after month, year after year, our air lines have brought about the present rapid improvements, and have made this new transportation system available for emergency use, at the same time using passenger, mail and express revenues to help defray the cost of continuous development and expansion.
An air line is the shortest distance between two points.
